Abstract
Oxytocin has been discovered to play a key role in social cognitions, social behaviors, fear conditioning, and social anxiety (Jones 2017). It is also responsible for the attachment we make to our mothers when we are young. Neonatal separation is known to cause chronic stress, anxiety, and altered social behavior. My research will investigate the oxytocin levels in rat pups who experienced maternal separation. This will give society a better understanding of what is happening in the brain and how this separation may be responsible for problems later in life.
