Abstract
Historical fiction is not only a sub-genre of fiction but also a way others can explore the private lives of historical figures, or people in a specific time period, that historians never know about. This original novella follows Ruth and Edward as they navigate the 1920s in New York. Ruth, a young African American woman, tries to find her identity outside of her family as she and her family move from the South to the North. Edward, a young immigrant from Ireland, tries to prove to himself and his family that he can make it on his own as he travels from Ireland to America for the first time. Separately, they have their individual struggles, but once together they help one another navigate the streets of New York.
