Abstract
“Creativity which comes from the subconscious can be more powerful and authentic than any product of a conscious mind.” - Sigmund Freud The body of paintings discussed in this thesis focuses on physical manifestations of the subconscious mind. This was accomplished by creating a personal vocabulary of symbols, colors, and modified forms embedded in vast fields of richly painted layers. Particular attention is drawn to the utilization of nontraditional tools and paint applications that were employed to express the fluid and repetitious qualities of dream and childhood memories. It is through this investigation that a passage of visual narratives was created.
